Engineering the infrastructure around AI

AECOM supplies engineering, design and construction-management services. Data centers create work both directly and through the power, water and transport infrastructure supporting them. Its economic exposure comes from professional-services contracts rather than ownership of the campuses it helps deliver.

Fiscal 2026 financial position

In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, revenue was $3.586 billion and the GAAP operating loss was $76 million. Operating cash flow of $95 million and free cash flow of $55 million provide company-wide context; these figures do not isolate AI-related work.

Services demand and internal AI

February 2026 earnings commentary described data-center demand, while a May presentation discussed deployment of AECOM’s own AI tools. Those are different activities: customer infrastructure assignments generate service fees, whereas internal tools can change how the company performs its work.

Project obligations remain specific

AECOM has not separately quantified a named AI-campus contract value or its completion schedule in these disclosures. A data-center development’s total construction budget therefore cannot be treated as AECOM revenue, and internal AI deployment does not establish customer acceptance of an infrastructure project.

Construction risk and cash conversion

A delayed construction-management project dating from 2019 produced a $337 million pretax loss. Completion was expected in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, with litigation recoveries potentially taking years. The company did not identify that loss as AI-related; net leverage was 1.5 times.

What would clarify the opportunity

Named data-center service awards, their fee value and progress toward client acceptance would sharpen the commercial picture. Separately, the delayed construction project’s completion and cash recovery matter to overall financial performance, even though its connection to AI has not been established.

Documented project connections

Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.

Evidence boundaries

Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.

This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
