The project in one minute

Google’s Visakhapatnam AI hub combines a planned gigawatt-scale data-center development with energy and international connectivity. Its October 2025 announcement commits approximately USD 15 billion over 2026–2030. That is a multi-part investment program, not verified expenditure on completed buildings or current operating computing capacity.

Scope and location

India’s Ministry of Electronics & IT records an approximately 1 GW hyperscale AI campus and around 600 acres allocated across Turluvada, Rambilli and Adavivaram. The hub spans multiple locations; our map uses a representative Visakhapatnam city-area pin, not a surveyed campus entrance. Other statewide capacity targets and earlier Adani regional plans are separate.

Readiness: construction with unresolved conditions

Google and the national government document the April 28, 2026 groundbreaking. Reuters independently observed site activity in August. October 6 Mint reporting describes demolition, levelling, tree cutting and a boundary wall. We classify the project as under construction at the site-work stage, not a completed or energized campus.

Latest legal evidence: October 6, 2026

Mint and Times of India report that the Andhra Pradesh High Court allowed work to continue at the developer’s risk, subject to the outcome of a public-interest petition. This does not establish final resolution of environmental or land challenges. The underlying court order was not directly reviewed; the legal account is attributed to these dated reports. No later disposition was verified in this review.

Environmental claims and responses

Reuters reported concerns about water and wildlife, while the state disputed allegations and Google said development would comply with applicable laws and use advanced air cooling. These remain attributed positions. This profile does not establish campus water consumption, a final engineering impact assessment or legal validity of all permits.

Named companies and economic roles

Alphabet / Google is the AI hub sponsor and cloud-services participant. Adani Enterprises participates through AdaniConneX, its 50:50 joint venture with EdgeConneX. Airtel’s disclosure supports a campus partnership, cable landing station and terrestrial fiber; the construction announcement names Nxtra by Airtel. These are distinct infrastructure relationships, not equal shares of the USD 15 billion commitment.

Capital and revenue boundaries

Our analysis: Alphabet’s opportunity depends on useful AI and cloud workloads; the infrastructure partners’ economics depend on disclosed contracts, delivered facilities and connectivity. Sources reviewed do not establish campus-specific revenue, margins, full financing close, customer utilization or the allocation of spending among partners. Neither Adani’s broader data-center investment nor Airtel’s company revenue should be assigned wholesale to this site.

Power and connectivity milestones

Google describes plans for new transmission, clean generation and storage. Airtel identifies fiber and a cable landing station. Planned energy and cable infrastructure is not evidence of delivered service. The next useful records would establish phase-specific power acceptance, landing-station delivery and computing service availability. No semiconductor vendor is assigned a campus contract by inference.

Timeline

October 14, 2025: Google, Adani and Airtel announce their respective roles. April 28, 2026: company and government records document groundbreaking. August 6: Reuters publishes its site-work observations and dispute reporting. October 6: independent reports describe continuation of work subject to litigation. The 2026–2030 spending horizon is not a verified first-service date.

Investor takeaway · Our analysis

Visakhapatnam is a substantial, documented entry point into India’s AI infrastructure expansion, with an identified cloud sponsor and named infrastructure partners. The investment case turns on the conversion of commitments into legally secure, powered, connected and productive capacity. Track phase delivery and dispute resolution before assigning revenue or return expectations.
