The one-minute investment takeaway
This is one of the clearest cases where an AI infrastructure story connects to a disclosed commercial contract. Talen sells nuclear energy under a long-term AWS agreement; Amazon uses power to support cloud infrastructure. The contract is broader than the adjacent campus, so its value cannot be assigned wholly to Salem Township.

Investor takeaway
The Susquehanna record should distinguish a contractual transition from full power delivery. Talen’s Q2 2026 filing says the transition to its revised AWS power purchase agreement occurred in April 2026. That is an attributed issuer-reported checkpoint, not independently metered delivery or campus commissioning. (Talen / SEC)
Target and actual history
Talen’s 2025 annual report expected transition to begin after transmission work in spring 2026, with full transition expected in spring 2027. Preserve that dated forecast rather than silently replacing its history. The later quarterly filing records an April 2026 transition. Its short disclosure does not establish that every previously forecast transmission phase was finished or that the regional contract’s full quantity was already delivered. No numerical schedule variance is calculated across these potentially different transition scopes. (Talen / SEC; Talen / SEC)
The regional contract remains distinct from the adjacent campus. Utility Dive’s original June 2025 reporting described a staged 1,920 MW agreement, Talen’s retail-supply role and PPL’s transmission/delivery role. Neither that account nor the reviewed quarterly passage discloses current campus IT load, utilization or a campus-specific share of supply. (Utility Dive / Ethan Howland; Talen / SEC)
Next evidence
Seek utility or project evidence identifying the completed transmission configuration, actual supply delivered under the revised agreement and the next campus acceptance milestone. This update reconciles an existing research gap; it is not a new October opening or a quantified earnings forecast. (Talen / SEC; Talen / SEC)
What the sources establish
- Disclosed supply agreement Contract scope. The June 2025 agreement targets 1,920 MW at full quantity through 2042, with extension options and full volume expected no later than 2032. It can serve the adjacent campus and other Pennsylvania locations. Talen’s presentation described approximately USD 18 billion of notional revenue over a 17-year contract. Source ↗
- Operator / company disclosure Updated transition schedule. Talen’s 2025 annual report, filed in 2026, described transition beginning after transmission work expected in spring 2026, with full front-of-the-meter transition expected in spring 2027. These are disclosed expectations; this review does not establish completion. Source ↗
Who receives the money?
Our analysis of the disclosed company roles. Revenue routes below are business-model interpretations, not estimates of booked project revenue.
| Company / exposure | Economic role | What investors need to establish |
|---|---|---|
| Talen / TLN | Nuclear electricity sales to AWS under the PPA. | Contract volume, pricing, availability and delivery schedule provide the most direct revenue connection. |
| Amazon / AMZN | Power purchaser and cloud infrastructure operator. | Reliable energy is an input cost; returns require computing demand and margins after infrastructure costs. |
| Future nuclear developers | Uprates and small modular reactors have been discussed. | Exploration is not a committed construction project or a supplier order. |
How financially meaningful is it? Analyst interpretation
The USD 18 billion amount is a management contract estimate, not annual sales, present value or profit. Dividing it by 17 produces about USD 1.06 billion per year as arithmetic only; the actual ramp and escalators mean annual revenue need not be level. For context, Talen’s Q2 2026 release guided to USD 2.025–2.225 billion of company-wide adjusted EBITDA for 2026. Contract revenue and company EBITDA are not comparable profit measures, and this agreement’s isolated contribution is not supplied. Financial disclosure ↗
Delivered energy × realized contract price, plus applicable capacity or contractual payments, drives gross receipts. Deduct operating, nuclear maintenance, delivery, financing and tax costs to evaluate earnings and cash flow.
Illustration, not a contract forecast: 100 MW supplied continuously represents 876,000 MWh per year. At an assumed USD 10/MWh incremental margin, it would generate USD 8.76 million before further fixed costs and taxes. Neither that margin nor constant delivery is asserted for this PPA.
Milestones that would change the assessment
| Milestone / disclosed target | Evidence to watch |
|---|---|
| Transition: disclosed spring-2027 expectation | Confirm transmission work and final front-of-the-meter transition with subsequent disclosures. |
| Contract ramp: no later than 2032 target | Track actual delivery commitments and volumes against the schedule; early ramps and final quantity are different. |
| Each reporting period | Watch nuclear availability, contract receipts and cash conversion. Separate plant performance from acquired assets and other portfolio drivers. |
What could break the investment case?
Our analysis: The contract reduces some merchant-price exposure but introduces customer concentration and long-dated delivery obligations. Nuclear outages, transmission constraints, replacement-energy costs and financing can alter margins. Changes in wholesale prices also affect the value of committing generation long term.
What would change our view?
Our analysis: The investment case weakens if the ramp slows, delivery costs absorb the contracted premium, or plant availability deteriorates. It strengthens with verified volume growth, dependable generation and demonstrated free-cash-flow conversion.
What remains unknown Not established in this review
No campus-specific portion of the regional PPA, current campus computing load or standalone project profit is disclosed. Contracted MW cannot be translated directly into installed GPUs. Small modular reactor exploration is not an operating asset.
This is project research, not a valuation model or a buy recommendation. Financial illustrations are assumptions, not management guidance. Review current company filings and valuation before making an investment decision.
October 16 source-check scope
- Later contractual checkpoint. Talen’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q glossary states that transition to the revised AWS PPA occurred in April 2026. This is issuer-reported contractual progress, not current metered campus load or full delivery of the regional agreement. Talen / SEC · publication date unavailable
- Historical forecast retained. Talen’s 2025 Form 10-K expected transition to begin after transmission work in spring 2026 and full transition in spring 2027. The later April contractual milestone does not, by itself, resolve every previously forecast physical subphase. Talen / SEC · 2026-02-26
- Contract and company scope. Utility Dive’s June 11, 2025 reporting describes staged regional supply, Talen’s retail-supply role and PPL Electric Utilities’ transmission/delivery role. These roles were attributed to Talen; the report does not independently verify April 2026 delivery. Utility Dive / Ethan Howland · 2025-06-11
