The investment takeaway

Our analysis: Narvik combines physical construction evidence, a named Microsoft compute agreement and disclosed financing. Those are distinct advances along the delivery chain. The most useful investor lesson is the changed customer relationship: the historical Stargate Norway announcement should not be treated as a current OpenAI campus contract. Delivery risk remains even when a customer and committed financing are identified.

What the evidence establishes

Nscale’s April disclosure identifies more than 30,000 Rubin GPUs for Microsoft in 2027 at a planned 230 MW campus. HENT reported September construction work on three North Campus buildings totaling 100 MW, with 2027 completion expected. The building package is a subset, not an extra campus to add to 230 MW. DCD’s May report identifies Microsoft taking capacity previously contemplated for OpenAI.

Power, cooling and readiness

The original project announcement describes hydropower and a cool northern climate as development advantages. These factors do not establish a fixed tariff, complete connection acceptance or measured operating efficiency. Under construction is supported by the contractor’s dated works statement. A further 290 MW historical expansion ambition is separate from the financing accordion’s 115 MW scope; neither should be added to operating capacity.

Demand and route to revenue

Microsoft’s disclosed relationship supports a concrete demand pathway for future computing services. Our analysis: the contract must still translate into installed and accepted hardware, sustained availability and receipts. Building completion, electricity availability, GPU deployment and useful workloads are separate events. We do not establish the precise workload beneficiary, contract pricing or any current direct OpenAI obligation from the historical branding.

Capital structure and financial sensitivity

Nscale reports USD 790 million committed financing from ABN AMRO, DNB, Eksfin, Nordea and SEB. A second USD 790 million is an uncommitted accordion and should not be described as available cash or fully secured funding. Our analysis: debt draw conditions, acceptance timing, interest carry and hardware refresh affect returns. Nscale’s corporate financing rounds must not be assigned entirely to Narvik.

Public-company exposure

Aker ASA is the disclosed development partner; Microsoft the current named customer; NVIDIA the GPU platform. ABN AMRO, DNB, Nordea and SEB are named financing institutions. Our analysis: development equity, customer service payments, supplier revenue and lender interest represent different exposures. Aker’s listed shares are not a pure campus investment. No lender allocation, hardware order margin or site-specific listed-company earnings contribution is established.

Risks and evidence that would change the assessment

Our analysis: phased building delivery, electricity acceptance, northern logistics, GPU availability and financing draw conditions can affect commencement. Dated commissioning and customer acceptance would strengthen the case; a changed delivery target or unmet funding condition would weaken it. Current operating MW, realized utilization, power price, customer pricing and project cash flow remain unknown. The historical 2026 GPU target is not evidence of completion.

Next milestones

Verify the 2027 contractor and compute deployment targets independently for their respective scopes. Track completion of the 100 MW building package, grid service, installed GPU counts and Microsoft acceptance. Confirm any accordion commitment before treating expansion finance as secured. Retain historical Stargate records as context while using the current Nscale Narvik identity.
