Blue Acquisition, Akamai and Applied Digital Face New Funding and Delivery Tests
Blockfusion, Blue Acquisition’s proposed merger target, has reported its first payment under a new customer lease. Akamai is preparing a major capital commitment for Anthropic, while Applied Digital has reported more capacity ready for service. Each development leaves a different funding or delivery test ahead.
FJ Intelligence’s proprietary algorithm analyzes AI infrastructure data across our full tracked company universe. Each week, we share three companies with our readers and explain the developments that brought them into focus.
The three are editorial selections of developments to monitor. Their order is not a numerical ranking.
It is not a prediction of share-price moves or a recommendation to buy or sell.
IBlue Acquisition NASDAQ: BACC · Conditional combination and funding
The October 16 filing describes BACC as a special-purpose acquisition company. Its proposed combination with Blockfusion has not made it the current operating owner of the Niagara Falls AI project. Blockfusion’s subsidiary North East Data has an announced CoreWeave lease. The October 16 filing’s CoreWeave agreement description (page 202) specifies an initial 35 MW of critical IT load; additional capacity depends on separate conditions.
In the filing’s liquidity discussion (page 231), Blockfusion reported receiving a $25 million customer payment on October 5 under North East Data’s lease and expected a second $25 million on or about November 3. Blockfusion accounts for those payments as deferred lease income; receipt does not establish that AI service revenue has begun. The filing also leaves the combination, listing and further financing unresolved. Revised capacity forecasts are management assumptions, not proof of an already missed customer deadline.
Why watch: new customer cash supports the transition, while the remaining financing and completion conditions can still change its prospects sharply. Next checkpoint: evidence of the expected November payment, then authoritative merger, financing and project-delivery updates. Payment receipt alone would not establish operating acceptance.
IIAkamai NASDAQ: AKAM · Capital spending ahead of service revenue
Akamai’s new Anthropic project plans describe approximately $11.6 billion of commitments over seven years, subject to delivery and service obligations. A further $9 billion is optional and should not be counted as committed business.
The disclosed investment plan brings the cash burden forward: approximately $1.7 billion of capital expenditure in the fourth quarter of 2026, with no project revenue that quarter. Service is planned to start in late second-quarter 2027. That creates a significant test of procurement, funding and delivery before the longer-term revenue opportunity can be realized.
Why watch: this changes the scale of Akamai’s compute business and customer exposure. Cloud infrastructure services generated about $99 million of Akamai’s $1.10 billion second-quarter revenue, illustrating the starting size of the business ahead of the new project. That business measure includes services beyond AI. Execution could create substantial revenue; cost overruns or delays would put cash at risk first. Next checkpoint: November 5 financial results and the master agreement expected with the third-quarter filing, followed by evidence of fourth-quarter spending and equipment delivery. The results call is confirmed; a specific AI announcement is not.
IIIApplied Digital NASDAQ: APLD · From ready-for-service capacity to rent
Applied Digital’s October 7 results said that Polaris Forge 1, leased to CoreWeave, reached 250 MW of ready-for-service capacity on October 1. The company expects initial Polaris Forge 2 operations to lift delivered North Dakota capacity to 300 MW by year-end. Polaris Forge 2’s tenant is described separately as an investment-grade hyperscaler. CoreWeave’s role at Polaris Forge 1 connects Applied Digital’s story with Blockfusion’s, although their delivery and financing arrangements differ.
The financial distinction matters. In the quarter ended August 31, HPC hosting revenue included $65.8 million of base rent, $183.5 million of tenant fit-out work and $13.3 million of recoveries. The headline total is therefore not all recurring rent. As of August 31, the company reported $6.4 billion of debt against $3.7 billion of cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash; restricted balances are not all freely available.
Why watch: recent delivery supports the expansion story, but debt service and the remaining build-out make timely conversion into rental cash important. Next checkpoint: verified initial Polaris Forge 2 service against the year-end target, followed by rental and cash-flow disclosures. Contracted capacity and potential power agreements should not be treated as operating facilities.
Evidence cutoff: October 19, 2026. Plans, forecasts and expected payments remain conditional. Company-reported delivery is identified as such. Selection reflects monitoring importance, including favorable and adverse outcomes; it does not imply that other tracked companies have low exposure or low risk.
BACC figures use the October 16 filing independently read during the October 19 source review. A fresh retrieval of that filing was unavailable at publication; its figures and expected payments remain dated disclosures.
